Model UN Club Wins Three Awards at NM Conference

Three Santa Fe High teams were awarded for their remarkable performance during the three-day New Mexico Model United Nations Conference that ended on Fri., Nov. 17.

Senior Theo Goujon was awarded Outstanding Delegate in the Security Council, senior Ramona Park was awarded Outstanding Delegate in the General Assembly, and seniors Madeline Grantham-Philips and Wyatte Grantham-Philips, along with sophomore Justin Reynolds and freshman Makayla Mutz, were awarded Outstanding Delegation in the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC).

This was a notable year as both Ramona and Theo are the first in Santa Fe High’s Model UN history to win Outstanding Delegate. In addition, this was New Mexico Model UN’s first time having DISEC as one of the committees.

Club sponsor Mr. Eadie said he is thrilled, and encourages students to consider joining Model UN next year.

Model UN is a club dedicated to teaching students about international diplomacy, public speaking and group collaboration. Students are given country assignments and delegations, and are then expected to represent their country’s political standpoint to role-play delegates in an annual conference. The delegates work with other countries and teams in different committees to form coherent resolutions and mock solutions to real international issues. This year, Santa Fe High’s country and team assignments were as follows:
