Now that the new commons has opened up, many wonder what’s happening to the old commons, and just overall, What’s next?
According to Coach Holladay, ROTC is going to move into the old commons. For now, though, the focus is on renovating and preparing it for the ROTC program.
With ROTC out, what will happen to the Activities Center? According to Mr. Mascareñas, the goal is to raze that building and convert it to more parking space. The additional spaces will be for parents and guests who attend events here.
The overall long-term goal for the Santa Fe High campus is to bring it in closer, to tighten it up. “It’s a safety issue,” states Mr. Mascareñas. Bringing the campus closer means that old buildings will be renovated and reused for more space. “The old buildings will be turned into new buildings,” says Mr. Mascareñas. Ultimately, the campus will be less “porous,” with fewer ways for intruders to enter.
Junior cheerleader Chanell Carrillo has this to say about the campus: “I believe there should be much more facilities dedicated to sports. Football, band and many others have their own rooms. Why can’t every sport have a room?”
