Demon Track & Field had a “stellar performance” at the 5A State Track & Field Championships on May 17 and 18, according to Coach Peter Graham.
The boys team was 5 points out of third place, and the girls tied for 16th place.

State champion relay team Valin Wittenburg, Bryce Melton, Cy Anderson, and Sev Kofler set a state record on Friday in the 4 x 200 meter (800-meter) and then set a new one on Saturday.
Ruby Sallah placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Zavia Burton placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Daniel Busemeyer placed fourth in the 800-meter run.
Valin Wittenburg and Sev Kofler placed first and second 400-meter dash.
Sev Kofler, Valin Wittenburg, and Bryce Melton placed second, third, and fourth in the 200-meter dash.
The State Champion 4 x 400 (1600 meter) relay team of Valin Wittenburg, Daniel Busemeyer, Cy Anderson, and Sev Kofler, set a new state record.
The athletes relished their hardware.
