Mr. Lane Puckett, who joined the staff of Santa Fe High in 2023, teaches environmental science and biology.
Before becoming a teacher, he attended Texas A&M University, where he studied biometric science with a minor in neuroscience.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Mr. Puckett said he moved to Santa Fe because Houston is a large, highly populated city with a lot of traffic. “It would take me an hour to drive 10 or 15 miles to get to work. I’ll take the easy traffic and the decent weather here any day,” he said, adding that it is very hot in Houston.
Mr. Puckett said he tried a lot of jobs, but the one thing he always loved was school, and he always wanted to go back. As a teacher now, he loves what he does, both working with students and the subjects he teaches. He also really likes the school, “just how it’s laid out like a college campus and how the rooms are laid out.”
In his free time, Mr. Puckett likes to play video games. “My favorite type of games are massive multiplayer online games, like Final Fantasy V or World of Warcraft,” he said. But he stressed that most of his time goes into work, with grading, planning his lessons, and helping his students. But he doesn’t mind – he loves his job, getting to know his students and helping them.
