Kaisa Svard joined the Santa Fe High staff in January of 2024. She teaches ninth- and tenth-grade honors English.
Originally from Colorado, Ms. Svard attended the University of Puget Sound before switching to Colorado State. “I found the rain really depressing,” she said about living in Washington.
At Colorado State, Ms. Svard earned her bachelor’s degree in English. Then she earned her master’s in curriculum and instruction at Grand Canyon University.
Before Ms. Svard started her career in education, she had planned to go into physical therapy because she has a love for helping people. But in her second year of college, she decided teaching would be a good job and pursued that instead. She said she was “fascinated by the way people learned and remembered things.”
Ms. Svard began her teaching career in Arizona, where she stayed for five years. Then she moved to Santa Fe, where she taught at Capshaw, Mandela, and Milagro before transferring to Santa Fe High. She’s enjoying her time here so far: “I like working with kids this age,” Ms. Svard stated.
Outside of work Ms.Svard enjoys spending time outdoors. She has a passion for backpacking, hiking and running. She also loves art, music, books and her two dogs.
