Four Santa Fe High musicians performed with the local ensemble High Desert Winds, on Feb. 4, at St. Francis Cathedral.
Bassoonist Alex Lovato-Herrera, percussionist Malia DeLeon, flutist Abby Frey, and clarinetist Sophia Buchan all performed with the group.
“It’s a good learning experience to play with experienced players, instead of high-schoolers,” said Abby. “The musicians really know what they’re doing, and the repertoire, which was all about New Mexico, felt like home.”
The ensemble performed the following pieces: “Sixty-Six,” by Robert Sheldon; “Land of Hope and Beauty,” by Jordan Grigg; “Lightning Field,” by John Mackey; “Ghost Dances,” by Roland Barrett; and “Santa Fe Saga,” by Morton Gould.
