Boys Demon soccer kicked off their season with a smashing 5-0 win over Santa Fe Prep on Aug. 29 at Sun Mountain Field.
In the first ten minutes, each team had a chance at goal, but both goalies stood strong. The Demons got the breakthrough when Chris Solano found Cy Anderson in front and Anderson slid the ball past Griffin goalie Van Anderson to give the Demons a 1-0 lead.
Luis Serrano doubled the Demons’ lead with a spectacular free kick from midfield that soared over 6’2” Van Anderson and into the back of the net. On the ensuing play, the Griffins got their best chance of the game when Adam April had a breakaway but was denied by Santa Fe High goalie Pasha Burnett. (Pasha was awarded Player of the Game.)
The score was 2-0 at halftime.
Early into the second half, Luis Serrano lifted a ball over the defense to Cy Anderson. who connected with the volley for his second goal. Soon after, Chris Solano scored his first goal of the season when he headed a cross into the net. Then Beckham Sayer got the Demons’ fifth goal when he caught Van Anderson off his line and sent a rocket into the back of the net.
