Demonette volleyball won its first two matches of the season, but this is only the beginning of the chapter because the varsity team is expecting more wins this season.

The Demonettes played the Hilltoppers in Los Alamos on Aug. 29. This was the varsity team’s first official game of the season, and they rose to the occasion. They played four out of the five sets, winning the first, then losing the second, but winning the last two to accept the victory.

The team’s first home game was against the Taos Tigers on Sept. 3. Even though there weren’t many fans there, the girls still put on a show with five hitters getting at least five kills each. They won all three games, each an easy win.

This year’s team consists of a mix of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. But despite their age differences, they are able to communicate and work together.

Standouts include outside hitter Salome Romp, who had the most attacks and kills from both games combined; and middle hitter Joey Chambers, who had many kills both games as well. But none of these kills would have been possible without setter Courtney Brookover, who had beautiful sets for both matches.

Coach Josie Adams said about the season, “I think that we have an incredible opportunity to do really well. I think we have a lot of talent, we have a lot of good leadership, and we’re really excited.”

In addition to varsity winning their games, both JV and C team came out with wins as well. As of Sept. 5, all of the teams are 2-0.

A schedule of upcoming games can be found on the Demon Tattler Calendar.
