Senior Jeremy Gonzales received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award/Scholarship on Jan. 21, 2019. This award is given to five SFPS students each year who are active in the community, are a leader to others, and who maintain a specific G.P.A.

“I feel very honored to know I am making a small difference in a big place,” Jeremy said.  “I hope to help others and give back.”

Jeremy was nominated by his NJROTC Chief Instructor.

Jeremy will join the New Mexico Army National Guard after graduation, followed by attending the University of New Mexico, where he plans to study secondary education and business.

“I wanted to give back to my community in a positive way, so personally I felt like it was my responsibility to guard The Zia and to protect my home state,” he explained.

Jeremy’s biggest goal is to help change the world, to make it better and happier. He said couldn’t do what he does or what he has accomplished without the encouragement of his mother and three younger sisters.
