“It has been an incredible experience portraying Anne Frank,” said Sage Merriam, the sophomore who plays the main role in the upcoming play.
This play is about the events that took place in the annex in which the Frank family hid, and the persecution of Jews during WWII. She continued, “The show is outstanding and displays such admirable qualities of love and light in the context of such a horrible situation.”

Some of the cast shared how they were affected emotionally playing their roles and how their perspective of the story changed by their reenacting the events.
“My character struggles from anxiety, and she is someone who’s emotional and dramatic, so to become her takes a lot of emotional energy,” said Zoe Dukeminier, who plays Mrs. Van Daan.

Rebecca Jimenez, who plays Margot, responded, “Whenever I thought of the story of Anne Frank I knew it was sad, but part of me never understood how much. Going through some of the events on stage really has allowed me to realize how full of life all these people were, how alike they are to us. Feeling the life these people had lived has really made this whole story that much more real.”

“There is such raw and gorgeous human nature in the script that is wonderful to depict,” added Sage Merriam. “I’ve never had this many lines in a show before, so it’s been challenging, but I’m so incredibly happy to be a part of it.”

The play will take place in the Performing Arts building on Oct 25, 26, and 27 at 7:33 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens, and $8 for Inducted Thespian members. Tickets may be bought at the door or online at https://www.santafehigharts.com/
