Originally from New Orleans, Ms. Caldwell graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in math and business, a master’s degree in math, and a master’s in secondary education (in math and English).

Ms. Caldwell said, “I was never going to become a teacher — they weren’t hiring women so much then. It was more of a second plan, but I’m glad I went through with it.” She added, “I enjoy all the fun that comes with teaching the youth of America.”

Outside of being a teacher, some of Ms. Caldwell’s hobbies include gardening and yard work. She also has a successful daughter who is a nurse practitioner and grandchildren who are very active in their high school sports.

Ms. Caldwell goes by the motto, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming.”
