Fortnite is a sandbox battle royale game developed by Epic Games. The goal is to survive and be the last one standing. It is available on mobile, PS4, PC, Xbox One and Mac.

There are several game modes: solo (alone), duo (two players), and squad (four players), as well as PVP (player vs. player) and PVE (player vs. environment).

Picking a spot to land in the game is really difficult because the game features a high risk/reward depending on where you land. Popular places to go include Pleasant Park, Tilted Towers, and Retail Row. These places are more established and include more loot than others.

Throughout the game there is a “storm” that will speed up the game. This storm closes in a circle until there’s only one player left.

This 100-player battle includes different types of loot that all have a ranking: Grey (common), Green (uncommon), Blue (rare), Purple (epic), and Gold (legendary). The weapons that can spawn in-game are assault rifles, pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, rifles, launchers, and melee explosives.

The recently added vending machines provide randomized items to players depending on the materials they collected in game (stone, bricks, and wood). The loot itself can be found in chests or placed around randomly in houses. Fortnite supply llamas are much harder to find than chests and vending machines; only three will ever appear in any one match. The llamas supply powerful loot that includes ten stacks of ammo types, building materials, sets of traps, and consumables. (If you have not received enough loot, then there are also supply drops that drop randomly on the map.)

Players can receive several things to help their health stats, such as shields that act as armor and medpacks that can heal. (Depending on their size, they can provide certain increase for those items).

Building items such as traps, walls, stairs, and roofs can help players win too. The walls and stairs are used more often for blocking crossfire and climbing up mountains. When you receive a trap you can place it inside a house and its usually good for a kill or two depending on how advanced the player is.

Fortnite’s popularity is no joke—it had 3.4 million players as of February, according to the gaming news website Infinity Cloud, and has hired more engineers to handle their server load. There were also many Twitch streamers that played the game introducing it to their followers. The most watched Fortnite streamer is Ninja, a former Halo player, who gets approximately 113,407 views per stream, according to Social Blade.

Fortnite Mobile is currently making more money than Pokemon GO, Candy Crush and Clash of Clans, earning more than $6.4 million in one week, according to Infinity Cloud. The fact that it can be played on PC and consoles makes the numbers for mobile more significant.

According to NPR and Rolling Stone, an Ohio high-school chemistry teacher recently lost a bet to his students and is now making their final exam about Fortnite. The bet he had with his students was that if their photo got 6,700 retweets, he would make the exam Fortnite themed; the photo itself got more than 30,000 retweets. Now the teacher is working with Fortnite developers to create the final.

Steven Asarch, writing in Newsweek, stated, “It’s highly addictive and fun because of the building mechanics to a playful exterior that’s fun for casuals and pros. You can be the first person to die and then just hop into another. It’s endless.”

Fortnite is very stressful and also highly addictive because of how many advanced players there are. The game itself has good graphics and smooth animations, which makes it aesthetically pleasing. Aside from all the stress in the game, it’s really fun to play with friends because it gives a way to connect with them.

One SFHS player, Elijah Gonzales, said, “I like playing Fortnite since it is decently fast paced, it’s unpredictable, and it relies on users’ skills. You can’t just walk into the game and be great at it; you need to learn and work hard to get even decent at it. I love the aspect of being able to completely outplay my opponents with building. Building is a feature that completely changed the game itself.”

If you like strategizing and working at something, then Fortnite would be a good game consideration for you.
