Santa Fe High Debuts Spanish Model UN

Noah Dowling-Lujan, Contributor

Mired in communication errors and erroneous organization, it’s a surprise that Santa Fe High’s participation in Modelo Naciones Unidas (Spanish Model UN) went as well as it did. But isn’t that’s how most things begin—with a well thought-out plan of “winging it”? If this is the worst that happens, then the future looks bright.

At its peak, the club had about 13 members, but on the day of the conference in Albuquerque, that number was two — Noah Dowling-Lujan as Kuwait, in Consejo de Seguridad (Security Council); and Pablo Garcia as the United States, in Comité de Crisis (Crisis Committee). A demoralizing number sure, but not a debilitating one.

We debated, wrote resolutions, and represented our school as well as we could. With the support of Sra. Herran, we were small but sturdy. Although we both felt unprepared and nervous, it laid the foundation for future students wishing to participate.

¡Buena suerte, futuro delegados!
