As the regular season nears its end, both varsity and JV boys basketball teams have earned the title “Santa Fe City Champs.” Varsity’s overall record is 11-12, as of Feb. 7.

Antonio Lovato, one of three varsity captains, said he believes in his team but hopes the Demons will be victorious in their remaining district games. Antonio said the team has gotten better at keeping their composure during games, and they hustle more. “I really hope for a winning record. We want to get into the state tournament,” he said.

Cruz Martinez and Fedonta “JB” White are freshmen who have won their place on varsity. Cruz thinks his teammates are playing well. “We had a rough start, but now everything’s working out great,” he said.

Coach Zack Cole said he is proud of the team. He believes they have improved and will continue to do so.

JV’s overall record is 12-3, as of Feb. 7. Coach Francisco Rivera said he is proud of the team, whose captains are Derek Carlton and Ramon Roybal.

“My main goal, I would say, is to have [the team] abide by the rules more,” said Coach Rivera. “I think this is also one of their weaknesses.” He also thinks that the defense and their quickness helps them in games.

C team, coached by Martin Cole, has also maintained a winning record this season.
