What motivates athletes to become leaders of their team? How do team leaders approach their roles? The Demon Tattler interviewed several team captains. Here are their responses.

 

Girls Varsity Soccer Co-captain Tori McKinney

Q: What do you do to make sure your team works hard?

A: Really motivate everybody and encourage everyone to work hard every day.

Q: How do you defeat conflicts on the team?

A: We need to have communication and be truthful to each other.

 

Girls JV Soccer Co-captain Alyssa Bernal

Q: How do you and your team work together?

A: We need to have trust, we need to communicate, and a lot of teamwork is needed.

Q: What are your challenges?

A: Being able to get everyone to connect, and to have everyone work as a team even when there is a problem going on.

 

Boys Varsity Soccer Co-captain Eric Sanchez

Q: What do you do to make sure your team works hard?

A: I’m always hard on them and tell them what to do and tell them to keep doing better.

Q: How do you defeat team conflicts?

A: We all get together and try to be calm at that moment and work everything out.

 

Boys JV Soccer Captain Kiran Smelser

Q: What are your goals for your team?

A: Our goal this year is to improve on last year and see how far we get, and to create good varsity soccer players for the future.

Q: What do you do to make sure your team works hard?

A: I always try to work my hardest whether it’s a practice or a game.

 

Varsity Football Co-captain Jared Jones

Q: How do you and your team work together?

A: If I work hard, they’ll work hard.

Q: What do you do to make sure your team works hard?

A: Priorities. They usually have to leave it to the seniors.

Q: What are your goals for your team?

A: The goal for JV is we stick together through the game.

Q: How do you and your team work together?

A: We have communication and pick each other up and don’t hold grudges.
