The Santa Fe High School has four choirs: Demon Choir (Advanced Mixed), Advanced Treble (Women), Caballeros (Beginning Men), and Bel Canto (Beginning Women). Each choir has its own characteristics. Each student has their own unique voice.
Caleb Heaton, the choir director, is a welcoming teacher whose goal is to help each student reach their full potential.
Mr. Heaton takes all four choirs on little trips each school year. At the beginning of the year, in September, they go to Hummingbird Music Camp. In winter, they go to Red River Ski Area.
Last May, the choir had the honor of going to New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall. This year, their end-of-year trip will be to Seattle, Wash.
There are fundraisers every year to raise money for these trips, beginning with the Fall Fun Drive, where any old clothes students don’t need anymore are donated to the Choir Booster Club. At the beginning of the school year and in the spring, there are bake sales and car washes (cars are $10 and trucks are $15).
In March, the choirs participate in Music Performance Assessment. In the last three years, each choir scored 1, the superior score.
At the end of the year, the choir performs various pop songs in a variety show, known as the “Pops Concert.” This gives students from all four choirs the chance to show their unique talents and perform solos.
Mr. Heaton and the choir members ask staff and students to attend their performances and support their fundraisers so they can enjoy once-in-a-lifetime dreams and opportunities.
