The Santa Fe High speech and debate team recently competed at the East Mountain High School “Top of The World” Tournament. The team did exceptionally well, especially taking into account the fact that many students had never before competed in the events in which they did in this tournament.

Ms. Hogan, who coaches the team, reported that with Justin Reynolds taking first place and Samantha Quintana taking third in the Big Questions competition, Anna Welsher taking first place in the Novice Lincoln Douglas, and Amanda Kintrell taking third place in Humorous Interpretation, this was a successful competition for the team.

The recent success of the Speech and Debate team is reinforcing the idea that students who partake in speech and debate events during high school are driven, serious and confident in their actions.

This year the team is planning to attend their first national competition in Albuquerque on May 31, 2019. With over 10,000 attendees, this tournament is one of the world’s largest academic competitions. This event is an extremely important event for this year’s speech and debate team.
