Evacuation Drill: Like Herding Cattle

Santa Fe High principals and district administrators collaborated with local law enforcement to perform an evacuation drill on Sept. 5 that had students take a 1.8-mile walk from the school to the Genoveva Chavez Community Center.

Blocking traffic on Yucca Street, Camino Carlos Rey, and Avenida de las Campanas was a long line of students, about a mile of teens walking in the blazing sun and 81 degrees.

“It is exercise,” said one of the staff.

Students came back tired and oh so sweaty just before lunch, having begun the drill at approximately 10 a.m.
