Apple TV+
May 5, 2019
During the Apple Special event on March 25, the company announced several huge new features for iPhone users. But the one that stole the show and was saved for last was Apple TV+. This is a streaming service that will compete with Netflix as a new way to watch shows and movies online and offline.
Apple TV+ will feature a strong group of actors who will star in and even direct some never-before-seen shows that will be exclusively on Apple+. Some of these personalities include Jennifer Aniston, Hailee Steinfeld, and Chris Evans. The shows and movies will range from sci-fi to comedy to mystery to drama and even kids’ shows. Oprah will also have a documentary on sexual harassment in the workplace and on mental health with Prince Harry as the co-creator.
There will also be cable shows available and satellite channels such as HBO, Starz, MTV Hits, Comedy Central, Now, Lifetime Movie Club, EPIX, and CollegeHumor Dropout. There are trailers for the upcoming shows on Apple’s commercial for Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ will be ad-free, but there is no word on how much a monthly subscription will cost, though estimates put it in the $10 to $15 range, similar to Netflix’s monthly cost.
This app won’t be supported only by Apple, either. It will be available on some smart TVs such as Roku and Amazon Fire and will be supported by DIRECTV, Hulu, and PlayStation Vue.
The other new features announced at the event include Apple News+, which will now be including magazines in the app; more additions to Apple Pay, which organizes the original Apple Pay and Apple Wallet; Apple Card, which is a credit card; and Apple Arcade, a new gaming feature with a monthly cost for access to all games in the iTunes library, with no ads.
