The boys basketball season has started off strong. The Demons won the Bobby Rodriguez Capital City Tournament on Dec. 8 for the first time in 20 years, beating Pojoaque Valley, Española Valley, and then Capital in the championship game.

According to Head Coach Zack Cole, as of Dec. 11, the Demons were number one in the state. As of Jan. 2, they were fourth.

“We have a bunch of talent in senior leadership and some very nice young talent,” said Coach Cole. “But our goal is to make as big of a run as we can.”

“The whole team has been grinding every day,” said JB White, who plays power forward and wing. “All the work we have been putting in every day is going to take the team very far, and hopefully we can win state.”

Senior Antonio Lovato, a guard, stated that the whole team is very talented and he “hopes that the team can work together to win state.”

The team has set a winning record so far after winning the Al Armendariz Classic at Capital High School for the first time ever. “We proved ourselves in that tournament and we showed what we can do and we will be a problem this year,” said Coach Cole.

As of Jan. 2, the team’s overall record was 11-2.
