Winning Season for Track & Field

The Demon track team finishes the eventful 2018 season with a total of five State qualifiers and a multitude of season and personal bests.

Judith Allison qualified for State in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.90, and Ethan Sena qualified for State in pole vault with a vault of 12’6. Katherine Sanchez qualified for state by placing second at Districts in pole vault with a vault of 8’0 and then vaulted a personal best height of 8’6 at State.

Theodore Goujon qualified for state in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.06 seconds and qualified his 200-meter dash with a time of 22.48. River Edwards qualified for State in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.60 seconds. Rihanna Varela qualified for State in triple jump with a jump of 35’2 and also in long jump with a jump of 17’4.

The boys medley relay team (Kevin Garcia, River Edwards, Theodore Goujon, and Brad Moffett) also qualified for state by placing first in the District meet.

All of the state-qualifying athletes in the running events had outstanding performances to end the season.

Theodore Goujon ran a preliminary heat-winning 400-meter dash personal-best time of 50.06; Judith Allison placed third in the 300-meter hurdles final with a personal best time of 45.44 seconds; River Edwards ran a preliminary heat-winning 200-meter dash personal best time of 22.28 seconds, as well as placed fourth in the 200-meter dash final with a time of 22.74 seconds.

The 2018 track season overall showed a tremendous amount of improvement by its athletes as almost every runner, jumper and thrower achieved a new personal best in their respective events.

“It’s been a great season,” Coach Peter Graham said. “Everyone showed a lot of improvement, and I’m very happy with that.”
