New Coach, New Season, New Team

The Santa Fe High baseball team has had multiple changes this year, including a new varsity head coach and a larger number of athletes trying out for the season.

Head coach Ian Farris is no new face around the Santa Fe community as he owns his own facility, E&G Baseball Academy. He also has extensive experience with the sport as he was a D1 baseball player for Savannah State University.

Both the varsity and JV teams will be attending their first games this week. JV has their first away game in Española and varsity will compete in a Valencia tournament on March 1.

Many of the players have been working since fall, participating in conditioning, weightlifting, and velocity training.

Varsity catcher Lawrence Mirabal said, “I am confident in our group of guys as well as our coaches. I really believe that we can accomplish a lot if we continue to put our full effort into every game and practice. I see us doing a lot of big things this season and hope to reach our big goal — make the state tournament and go as far as we can.”
