Who Will Win Super Bowl LII?

Lincoln Byrd, Author

With this NFL season coming to an end and the final teams determined, I will predict who I think will take the Super Bowl trophy home.

This year’s Super Bowl matchup is between the Philadelphia Eagles, who destroyed the Vikings 38-7 in the NFC Championship game, and the New England Patriots, who pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind win over the Jacksonville Jaguars to advance to their eighth Super Bowl under Tom Brady.

The Eagles, who are the number-one seed in the NFC, have been picked against ever since they lost their starting QB and MVP candidate Carson Wentz to a torn ACL in a week-14 game against the Los Angeles Rams. They had the second-ranked best offense in the league, and an 11-2 record with Wentz at quarterback, averaging 31.1 PPG.

Nick Foles, a veteran quarterback, took over where Wentz left off. The Eagles’ offense was worse, averaging 19.6 PPG, but they’ve found ways to win. Phillies’ defense has been lights out this season, with the number-one run defense in the league and some of the best corners in the game that shut down great receivers. The Eagles have been underdogs throughout the playoffs, and definitely weren’t expected to be representing the NFC in Super Bowl LII.

It sure has been a wild ride for the Eagles, and their offense will need to come out red hot like they did against the Vikings to beat the defending champions. If Nick Foles plays the way he did in the NFC Championship, and their defense comes through, this sure could be the year Philadelphia’s hopes of winning a championship come true.

However, the New England Patriots, who are defending last year’s Super Bowl title, have more experience in these big games. Led by the great Tom Brady, the Patriots have won five Super Bowls under Brady and their mastermind coach, Bill Belichick. The Patriots are now looking for their sixth title in the 21st century, and that shouldn’t be too difficult for Brady against a backup quarterback.

Brady had another great season with 32 touchdowns and only eight interceptions, and in the postseason, he had five touchdowns with no interceptions. If Brady wins a sixth title, he will definitely be known as the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time). The Pats’ defense has also been really good, with the most red-zone turnovers in the league and a great run-stuffing defensive line. The Patriots are strong in all aspects of the game, and with more experience, we could be seeing Brady and Belichick writing more history as one of the greatest dynasties in sports.

Not surprisingly, I predict the Patriots to win Super Bowl LII, and Tom Brady to get his sixth ring. I think this great Patriots team will be too much to handle for Nick Foles and the Eagles with little playoff experience. If Carson Wentz were playing, it might be a different story. (Also, the Pats will be wearing white in the Super Bowl, and the team wearing white has won 12 of the last 13 Super Bowls.)

I think the Eagles will be back soon with their young, talented quarterback. As for the Patriots, I predict them to be back-to-back champions of the NFL.
