Teen Boys: Who Wears What, And Why?

Jeremy Martinez, Author

A big part of our appearance is how we dress on a day-to-day basis, whether it be for an occasion or because people prefer a certain style. Here is an inside look at what male students at Santa Fe High School think.

Local clothing stores seem like they aren’t getting many people to shop there because many Santa Fe teens would rather go to Albuquerque to the Cottonwood Mall where there is a wide variety of big-name brands such as Nike, Vans, and Old Navy.

Most of the popular clothing stores have well-priced clothes, such as Old Navy, while the high-end designer clothing and bigger name brands have more expensive clothing, such as Nike Apparel and Polo.

What clothing styles are trending around the Santa Fe High community? We asked approximately 150 students about their favorite place to buy clothing. Here are the results:

H & M: 12
Nike, Rue 21: 7
Forever 21, Supreme: 6
Ross, Savers, Target, Kohl’s, Hollister: 4
Walmart, Zumiez, Boot Barn, Victoria’s Secret, Designer, American Eagle, Gap: 3
Internet, Wet Seal, Spencer’s, Pacsun, Tilly’s, Hot Topic, JC Penney, TJ Maxx: 2
Aeropostale, Foot Locker, Bape, Tommy Hilfiger, Dillard’s: 1

We also asked students if they admired a particular person’s sense of style and tried to emulate it. Most said they did not, but two respondents said they try to emulate Selena Gomez’s style. In addition, the following all got one vote each: Danny Devito, Christina Aguilera, Elijah Wood, Cara Delevingne, Conor McGregor, James Franco, Ariana Grande, A$AP Rocky, Donald Trump, Shrek, Kylie Jenner, and Beyonce.

Students at Santa Fe High wear many different brands and for different reasons. For instance, a student who wore the brand Thrasher said, “I like Thrasher because the logo represents people that skateboard like me.”

Students have different clothing styles that range from casual and laid-back to expensive designer clothing. One student said he likes to dress fancy because he cares about how he looks on a daily basis. On the other hand, some said they would rather dress comfortably and casually because they feel they don’t need to dress fancy to look nice.

In the end it all comes down to personal preference.
