Winter Art Show and Open House
December 9, 2016
On Dec. 9, the Santa Fe High Visual Arts department will be hosting its annual winter art show and open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Visual Arts Building. This free event will include work from all art classes, a performance by Santa Fe High’s string ensemble, and light refreshments.
AP Studio Art class will reveal their self-portraits, reflective still-life drawings and skeleton portraits. The Art 2 class will display their surrealism compositions, OP-art self-portraits and ink studies. Art 1 will feature works of form drawings and shading and value.
Crafts 1 classes will display their 3D studies in metal, paper mache, and plaster. They studied human proportions in the creation of their Day of the Dead skull masks and human figure “sculpture in the round” projects, and they learned basic metal forming as they learned about African mask design.
The Advanced Crafts class will show their wax-resist batik techniques and hand embroidery skills in their personal flags.
The Ceramics 1 class will show their black-and-white pinch pots that have been painted with black slip and then incised to show off the patterns as well as their sculptural glazed fish.
The Advanced Ceramics class will have their altered pinch pots and light spheres on display.
The show will be up until Dec. 14.
