Paul Finucan
December 7, 2016
English, English, English. If you don’t know about Paul Finucan, he became an English teacher because he loves English. He teaches English I, English III, and creative writing.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Finucan graduated from Kent University in 1997. He has been teaching for 16 years and joined the Santa Fe High staff in 2016.
If he is not teaching English or taking creative writing classes, Mr. Finucan can be found watching sports, horseback riding, hiking, rafting or working out at Planet Fitness. He has run three half-marathons that he is “very proud of.”
Mr. Finucan especially likes baseball and football; his favorite football team is the Buckeyes. “It’s weird leaving in a state that doesn’t have three major league teams,” he said. “I come from a state where sports are part of our cultural identity.”
Mr. Finucan is fairly new to New Mexico. During the summer of 2015, he came here to help his uncle, fell in love with the place, and decided to stay.

A good teacher leaves an impact that provokes you to look him up 20 years (did I just say 20-yikes) later.
This is downtown Kristi Brown! Hope you’re well!

Mr. Finucan…do you remember Raphael Veira? He was in your 12th grade English class at John Hay in 2009-2010. He is now an author! He mentioned to me that your comments greatly influenced his confidence in his writing ability. Raphael graduated from college with honors and moved to California to write! His 3rd book came out Friday. Here is a link to them on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7JVG3O?ref=series_rw_dp_labf
(This is his mother – but Raphael’s email address is [email protected])
Merry Christmas!!!!
