Saga: A Gateway into a Distant and Diverse Universe

Trey Silva, Author

SAGA-PICTURESo I was looking for something to read, and I figured that I hadn’t read a comic book in a while. I was pacing the aisles at Hastings when a little set of four graphic novels caught my eye. The first volume’s cover was simple — it depicted a green-haired, winged women holding a baby next to what I assumed to be her curly-horned husband. What I didn’t know at the time was that this was going to be one hell of a ride.

This series follows the ongoing battle between Landfall, a giant planet in some distant galaxy, and Wreath, the planet’s moon.

When two aliens from opposite sides of the war fall in love and have a baby the two planets begin to hire “Freelancers” to try and kill them. What ensues is an epic adventure story.

This beautiful masterpiece of a comic book is written by Brain K. Vaughan, the writer of another one of my personal favorite series, “Y: The Last Man.” It was drawn by Fiona Staples, artist for various Thor comics and Mystery Society.

If you’re looking for a compelling story with original characters and ideas, then this may be for you. Even someone who is not all that interested in comics may want to pick this up because it reads like a book, but looks like a comic. Who knows, maybe you might learn to love comics.
