As of 2020, the SAT was created as a graduation requirement for all New Mexico high school students. Ever since then, Santa Fe High has created a day where all Juniors participated in the test with the rest of the grades’ classes on a remote day. On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the graduating class of 2026 took the SAT, with some required to make up the test on different days if they missed it. The students were randomly assigned rooms based on their last name, taking a four-section test of reading, writing and language, and two math sections; the two English-based sections were 32 minutes and 54 questions each, while the math sections were 35 minutes with 44 questions each. This leaves the test with a total of 134 minutes and 98 questions, having students finish the test from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M., with some finishing even earlier or later, depending on the differing start times and rules.
The results from the test came in on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, for the students who finished the exam on March 19th at the school. The average SAT score for New Mexicans was 901; however, the average U.S. score for students was 1024. The question here is whether people were satisfied with their scores? If they were not, this article is a small guide on the steps to take next. All students are eligible for a voucher to retake the SAT up to two times for free; all you have to do is meet with your assigned counselor and ask for an SAT fee waiver or voucher. Once you have your voucher, you can sign up to retake the test at the College Board website. Currently, the next SAT test is scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. Despite this, the deadline to sign up for the test was April 18, 2025. However, there is another test for June 7, 2025, with the registration deadline being May 22, 2025.
Now, what happens to your old scores? Some schools allow superscoring SAT scores. This basically means a school will allow a student to submit their highest math and English score between all their test scores, despite it being the same test or not. However, some schools will only take your most recent score, which risks a lower score. Finally, other schools may also just accept the highest score from one test. So, I would research the college and university of my choice to see their SAT requirements to determine if the risk is worth it or not. For example, one of our local universities, UNM, does indeed superscore. UNM’s average SAT score is a 910 to 1150 SAT score.
