Hocus Pocus: 9/10
In my personal opinion, Hocus Pocus should be watched every Halloween, it is a must watch. The movie is about a teenage boy named Max and his little sister moving to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century. The movie is known to be a horror fantasy comedy. It would be a great movie to watch with family.
Nightmare Before Christmas: 8.5/10*
Nightmare before Christmas is a mix between a Halloween and Christmas movie. Overall I think it is a good movie. It is about the king of HalloweenTown, Jack Skellington, discovering Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion. It may be disturbing to younger kids, but I think most will be fine. It is a good movie to watch for both Christmas and Halloween.
Beetlejuice: 7/10
Beetlejuice is a good movie, but it may be disturbing to younger kids, as it is rated PG-13. Beetlejuice has been rated PG-13 for violent content, bloody images, strong language, drug use and suggestive material. Beetlejuice is a 1988 American gothic dark fantasy comedy horror. Overall I think it is a good funny movie and it would be good to watch with age appropriate people.
Monster House: 8/10
I really enjoyed this movie, especially when I was younger. It is about three teens who discover that their neighbor’s house is really a living, breathing, scary monster. It is a horror and comedy film, animated with an uncanny early 3D look. I would recommend watching it on halloween.
Halloween: 7/10
This is the Haloween franchise to end all franchises. While it has certainly earned its cultural ubiquity, I still think there are better, scarier Halloween movies. It would be a good movie to watch in chronological order on Halloween marathons, although that is certainly a lengthy, if rewarding, ordeal.
Scary stories to tell in the dark: 6/10
I personally like this movie, in spite of its flaws. It is about teens, Stella and her friends, deciding to sneak into a haunted house that once belonged to the powerful Bellows family, unleashing dark forces that they will be unable to control. It is interesting and I would recommend watching it.
Us: 10/10
I really like this movie. It is a horror and mystery film with heavy social commentary. In order to get away from their busy lives, the Wilson family takes a vacation to Santa Cruz, California. At night, four strangers break into their childhood home. The family is shocked to find out that the intruders look just like them. The plot is really insane and I would recommend watching it with friends.
*Editors Note: Nightmare Before Christmas is easily an 11/10.
