Mr. Salazar is a Santa Fe high school teacher who is 41 years old. He used to work at Camino, but it was in a non-profit organization and he got tired of it. He was interested in working at capital because he says that was the school most of his students go to. He also says he got lucky landing a job here at Santa Fe High School and how he’s been wanting to work with high school students. Some of the classes he had in mind were Health, Family and Consumer Science, and Spanish, he also really wanted to be a wrestling coach and he still wants to do it, he wants to compete before getting too old. Mr. Salazar has 2 bachelor’s degrees. He wanted to be a wrestling coach at first more than any other subject, English wasn’t what he had in mind but he says now that he’s teaching it’s better than what he expected. Becoming a teacher meant he had to go back to school and get his teacher’s license. His biggest achievement was graduating since not many in his family had graduated, he is also the only male teacher in his family. Something that motivated him to be a teacher was bad jobs. He says “I got tired of the jobs I used to have, I wanted something more and a better career.” He said, “The higher you go in school the more and better options you get”. He was born in Greeley colorado, he says that the world is different than when he was a student and that they did not have any advanced technology back then nor smart boards he is studying at sfcc to get his teaching license, and he’s been in new Mexico 11 years but 6 years in Santa Fe. Some of his hobbies are mixed martial arts and wrestling. He plays guitar but he prefers the bass guitar. He also plays bongo and wants to learn drums, keyboard, and saxophone. He doesn’t have a lot of experience, he is familiar with introductory levels but doesn’t know his way around the campus, he still likes it though, he says teachers and students are very nice to him. A thing about him is that he doesn’t like people messing with his students, he wants them to feel safe and protected, he tries to be understanding toward students he also tries to be patient since a lot of his students don’t stay focused and so far it’s been working for him, A lot of his students are just learning English and he’s unable to communicate with them in Spanish he tries learning something from them and he tries keeping it simple but the more they learn the better answers they start giving him, Another thing about him is he likes technology being used as a way of teaching he says they’re pretty useful when it comes to teaching.
