Although is started late in the year, the Santa Fe High Chess Club managed to play several tournaments this year, even placing second in one in February.
The team has risen to its current position through hard work and dedication. Mr. Champion, the club’s sponsor, said, “The kids were focused — they wanted to play and win.”
As the end of the 2023-2024 school year approaches, the club started entering a phase of — peace. Unlike the previous weekly meetings, team members now come by only occasionally. “The students are not really showing up anymore. People have their plays, final sports activities, and stuff,” said Mr. Champion.
Mr. Champion believes that everything will be better again next year, that the club will be on a different level with a fresh start.
