This year’s senior and junior prom is being held April 13 at the Santa Fe Convention Center, located downtown on Marcy Street. Tickets are being sold in the new commons or the office lobby for $30 each, cash only.
The convention center has become a more convenient place to hold prom due to its pricing and location – it is closer to home for many students, and it costs approximately $25,000 less than Buffalo Thunder, where the prom was held for several years.
A new thing about prom this year is that no freshman will be attending; even if one is invited by an upperclassman, they are not permitted to go.
This year’s theme is “Meet Us at Midnight,” inspired by the idea of euphoria. Gina Branch, who is organizing the event, stated that the theme was “a bit controversial” and “the district wasn’t comfortable with it” due to the TV show Euphoria, which displays substance use and partying, so they altered it
“I’m excited. I don’t know much about it though,” said Nora Lax, a junior who’s attending prom. Casey Forester, a senior who is also attending, said, “I’m excited, although I’m concerned about food.”
No food will be served at prom this year. According to Ms. Branch, food increases the cost of the event and it usually isn’t eaten.
On prom night, doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and stay open until 9 p.m.
Student Government will be selling approximately 500 tickets this year. For more information, find Gina in the office or read your prom ticket.
