After a one-year hiatus, the Santa Fe High Chess Club is back on its feet and planning for a February tournament.
Guitar teacher Mr. Champion stepped up as the club sponsor earlier this year and has hosted weekly meetings since September.
Each season, there is a tournament separated into four leagues, and the first three are for seating, or ranking. According to Mr. Champion, the club has successfully advanced in the previous two leagues in November and January.
Although the club hasn’t advertised itself much, throughout the school year, the number of members has been gradually increasing, according to Mr. Champion. At the moment there are 15 members.
The club meets in BC-004 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 2 to 4 p.m.on Wednesdays.
“We have a lot of fun, and it can be a lifelong lobby,” said Mr. Champion.
