Impressive pitching performances from senior southpaw Gabe Hartman and the team’s ace CJ Garcia led Demon baseball to dominant wins against district opponent Manzano Monarchs, 12-2 and 10-0, at home on April 12.

The Demons currently sit fourth in the district rankings, hoping to climb into the top three and earn a spot in the 5A state tournament. The sweep of the Monarchs keeps the team’s hopes alive, but they will likely have to win three of their next four district games to surpass one of the top three squads.

The doubleheader against the Monarchs not only revitalized the Demon’s crashing district season, but also propelled the team’s confidence ahead of their must-win stretch of games against Capital and Albuquerque high schools.

The team held a .542 batting average in the first game and a .478 average in the second, raking up 24 hits in total. With the Demons’ pitching department dialed, and the team pounding the ball at the plate, the rest of the district should be on notice.
