Santa Fe High’s speech and debate team is charging ahead and making a name for themselves.

Senior Nandi Strieker’s new original piece in the humorous interpretation category has earned them a spot at the National Speech and Debate Association’s national competition in Phoenix, Ariz., on June 11. 

Sophomore Josh Almeida was selected as a first alternate for nationals in the dramatic interpretation category, as was first-time competitor freshman Jane Gonzales, in the original oratory category. 

Senior Justin Mirabal guided the younger group as both team captain and Ms. Goldman’s teacher assistant. 

Ms. Goldman, head of the SAGE program and the coach of the team, received the New Mexico District New Coach of the Year award over spring break for the team’s continued success this year.
