Demon Cheer was named Grand Champions of the Spirit of Hope competition at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque on Jan. 28. Competing against 62 other dance and cheer teams, the team not only scored the overall highest score of the day, but they also brought home a first place trophy for the best Game Day Routine.
“These kids had never truly won anything before and boy, were they in shock that Santa Fe was on top,” said head coach Gina Branch.
The NMAA requires all participating schools with a cheer and dance team to compete in at least three NMAA-sanctioned events to qualify for the state competition at the UNM Pit, in March. This competition was one of those.
Coach Branch explained that this was the team’s first time competing with its current coaching staff: returning head coach Gina Branch, assistant coach Micaela Apodaca, and assistant coach Marissa Branch, who is a 2014 alumni of SFHS as well as an NMSU D1 Cheer graduate.
“I can’t even begin to explain how lucky I am to have inherited this group of young athletes,” said Marissa Branch.
Gina Branch added, “These kids are hungry hustlers and I can’t wait to see their progress continue!”

Principal David Vincent said, “Way to go, Cheer and Coach Branch!”

He congratulates all of the Demon cheerleaders:
