Construction and facility improvements continue at Santa Fe High, with some projects being completed over the summer and some just underway.

New baseball and softball fields with new turf and more modern equipment were completed in July. Andrew Martinez, head coach of Demon Football, said that the district will likely replace the football field with new turf within the next two years. In addition, the weightlifting room was renovated in June.

Jaynes Construction has begun building a new Commons next to Student Services. The new cafeteria, with facilities for culinary and Prostart classes, should be completed by the summer of 2023.

The current Commons will become the new Activity Center.

It is uncertain what will become of the current Activity Center (the round building near the student parking lot), which currently houses the ROTC program and some other classrooms. Principal Garcia said, “I think it’s most likely that Santa Fe Public Schools will consider tearing it down since it does not meet with the city’s latest building and health codes, and it would be a lot cheaper anyway.”

Of course the big area of land in front of the Commons – behind the library – will be the same. There are no plans for that.
