How It’s Being Spun: Right

The bias for right-leaning reporting isn’t necessarily an exaggeration of the importance of some facts, but is instead a near-complete turning away these events. In the case of these two prominent indictments, many right-leaning outlets, such as Fox News, have been choosing to not cover the developments. One example of this issue has been the consistent coverage of supposed collusion between the State Department under Hillary Clinton and Russian energy companies, specifically Uranium One. In this case, there is far more speculation than fact. Even the facts in this case, specifically that the State Department did authorize the sale of uranium mines to a Russian company, are far less relevant than the far more fact-based Russia probe, which is an ongoing issue. Nonetheless, certain politically-right news outlets have covered this as opposed to the Russian probe, primarily to divert the conversation.

When the Russia investigation is covered, often the time and involvement differentiation between Manafort’s actual role and his reported role can be so exaggerated that it becomes more than misrepresentation and instead becomes blatant falsification. This leads to the argument that these charges are completed prior to the Trump campaign, which is not entirely true.
