Anna Soeiro is a language arts and communications teacher who joined the staff of Santa Fe High in 2017. Before coming to SFHS, she worked at Capital High and Kearny Elementary.

Originally from Chicago, Ms. Soeiro moved to Santa Fe in 1997, six days after graduating from a Dominican University where she earned a degree in sociology. Later she earned her special education certification at SFCC with an endorsement in English. She also has a certification in humane education through the US Humane Society.

She chose to become a teacher to help kids and was drawn to special education because of a family member. “My brother was diagnosed with ADHD, but back in the 1980s, special needs were not addressed like they are today,” she said. “I have always felt bad that his issues were not dealt with properly.”

Ms. Soeiro said she enjoys working with her students and coworkers: “They keep me on my toes, and I enjoy the challenge,” she said.

Although Ms. Soeiro likes Santa Fe, she plans to move when her 14-year old daughter graduates from ATC. “I grew up traveling and haven’t had much of a chance for a long time,” she said. “I want to house-sit internationally and volunteer in animal sanctuaries. I must have a gypsy heart, and even though I love living in the woods in Pecos, I’d love to travel and explore more!”

In her free time she likes hiking, going treasure hunting to find cool things, antiquing, and hanging out with friends. Reading, taking weekend trips with her boyfriend, and babysitting the special little ones in her life are also on her list of things she enjoys.
