Super Bowl Prediction: Pats On Top

Will Germann, Author

The Super Bowl is near. The conference championship round determined who is playing in Super Bowl LII, which will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., on Feb. 4. Knowing the AFC and NFC champions, I predict the Patriots will beat the Eagles.

The NFC conference’s two top seeds — NFC division leader Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings — played on Jan. 21. The Vikings were among the four teams left, meaning they had a chance to play in their own stadium if they won the NFC championship, but they lost to the Eagles, meaning they are eliminated. (No team in the history of the NFL has ever competed in the Super Bowl in their own stadium, much less won in their stadium.)

The Jacksonville Jaguars, the underdogs that beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, lost to the New England Patriots, the defending champions, which secured a spot for the Pats in the Super Bowl.

The AFC championship was a close game, but I predicted the odds would lean toward the Pats. The Jaguars had won just one of 12 games against the Pats, and their last meet-up before the playoffs ended in a whopping blowout victory for the Pats, 51-17.

The Jaguars pulled an upset victory against the Steelers. On the other hand, the Patriots blew out the Tennessee Titans at home. However, the Jaguars’ quarterback, Blake Bortles, was simply not up to par with the Pats’ Tom Brady.

I had anticipated a good matchup for the NFC championship game, but predicted that the Vikings would get on top. After pulling off their miracle victory against the New Orleans Saints, a powerful team with an offense that averaged 28 points per game in the regular season, I thought the Vikings had it in them to do the same against the Eagles.

But the Eagles ended up beating the Vikings, possibly because they had the advantage of playing in their home stadium. Both teams were using their backup quarterbacks, so they were at an equal disadvantage in that regard. The Vikings’ new starting quarterback, Case Keenum, led the team to second seed in the regular season and had accumulated 22 touchdowns. However, he was not enough to bring the Vikings to the Super Bowl.

Therefore, the Patriots, who have advanced to the Super Bowl for the third time in the past four years, are going to battle the Eagles in Minneapolis. Both teams’ defenses are over the roof, and it will be a great game, but the Pats are going to have a chance at winning ring number six in this game. They have so much power in their roster, and with their quarterback, Tom Brady.

The Pats also have great coaching under Bill Belichick, who has brought the team to win five Super Bowls. In addition, they will be wearing white for the Super Bowl. This is fascinating because 12 of the last 13 teams that played in the Super Bowl while wearing white ended up winning.

The precision of the Pats’ offense can overcome the Eagles’ solid roster from head to toe. With both teams’ outstanding offense, the game may be high-scoring and may be close throughout the game to the fourth quarter. This is when I expect Tom Brady to take over and put the Pats on top like he is known to do.
