A lot of students at Santa Fe High School like to create music, but to them it’s art. Artists like to show their feelings and express what they see around them. A lot of artists like to relate to the people of New Mexico and Santa Fe and express how the people of their community see society.

Alyssa Montoya, 17, a musician and Santa Fe High student whose stage name is “Josie B,” is part of Pivotal Crew. She explained that “pivotal” has a meaning — it’s not just a word or some random name. It means something of crucial importance, a change in a person or in their life.

Alyssa believes that New Mexico is a hard place to come up. In her perception, people are always trying to bring each other down, and no one wants to see others succeed in life.

Alyssa stated, “I see the world as selfish because you could lose one dollar from your pocket and the next second you could lose your family or your house and no one will try to help you out.” She sees everyone in Santa Fe as by themselves, that if they want to make it they have to work harder than anyone else because barely anyone will support them.

She stated, “I think we, the people of the community, should recognize each other and help each other out.” She also thinks people should recognize that if people don’t help each other, “No one in New Mexico will make it.”

Alyssa wants to change how people are with each other. She wants the community to show more caring and knowledge toward each other.

Alyssa’s music can be heard on her public Facebook page (“Alyssa Josie Montoya”) and on Soundcloud @josie_b13.
