Santa Fe High’s Speech and Debate team, led by Ms. Goldman, competed at a tournament hosted by Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho on Jan. 27 and 28.

Josh Almeida took second place for his speech in the “Humorous Interpretation” category.

The other competitors included team captain Justin Mirabal in the U.S. Extemporaneous category, Nandi Streiker in Humorous Interpretation, and Jane Gonzales in “Big Question.”

The tournament, called “Eye of the Storm,” had the team focused and on site for two days.

The team’s next competition will be the Congressional New Mexico District Qualifiers on Feb. 11 in Albuquerque. Jame Gonzales, Keenan Downey, and Josh Almeida will compete at that event. After that is the state championship in late February.
